This is sad, it looks like it keeps getting worse by the day, we in the GLBT community want to be recognized and be known and acknowledged as any other citizens, but it seems that all is talked out there about us when we make it to “the news” is about hates crime, one after another they keep coming, I think it’s time we change the way we are viewed in this society, as a “target” for hate crimes, and even if this doesnt change soon, instead lets be positive, lets portrait ourselves as strong community who stands up for themselves, a peaceful, hardworking, loving community, but also as a community not to mess with!

I hope to see many people on the streets of Miami Beach on January 10th, wearing our colorful flags, and showing how big and strong our community really is!!!

But we ARE a target for hate crimes and will continue to be so as long as we are terrorized for being who we are.

Rallies are nice and fun and may even get some press but they don't change much. For every individual who shows up at a rally (I go to a lot of them) there are dozens more who are too frightened to be seen and possibly identified as gay.

We must come out and be out at every possible moment -- at work; at the store; at community meetings; among families and friends; everywhere and at every possible opportunity.

Until people see us as normal people doing normal things they harbor a sexualized notion of homosexuality. Only by being present to them as gay people can we hope to reduce their stigmatization of our lives.

Yes I also agree, many closet gays and lesbians who I have seen many times deny their sexuality when they are around straight people are the ones who drag us back and that’s why I also want to go to more rallies and be out wherever I am! I wish everyone would come out of the closet and like it was stated above it would start being more normal.

Your right ...but keep in mind that for all those that still are in the closet there are those bi sexual or bi curious or straight individuals that stand up for our right. You can ask Save Dade at their last event at the unity church there was like a handful of gay people. I really think coming out is important and I understand how scary it could be and how alone you can feel. However, everyone has a their own process of coming out according to their particular circumstances. I say if you are not out then support those who are ...like donate.
